Former Youth and Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has backed Black Stars midfielder Mubarak Wakaso over his comment that Ghana’s biggest political parties NPP and NDC are to be blamed for the Black Stars trophy drought.
The Black Stars of Ghana has not won any trophy since winning the 1982 African Cup of Nations in Libya.

The West African country has been in the finals of the AFCON on five occasions but has failed to lay hands on the trophy, recently losing the two finals to Egypt and Ivory Coast in 2010 and 2015 respectively.
This according to Mubarak Wakaso is the partisan politics play around the Black Stars by the two Ghanaian biggest political parties.

Sharing his view on the comment from the Jiangsu Sunning combative midfielder, Honorable Nii Lantey Vanderpuye who is a former Youth and Sports Minister has agreed that indeed partisan politics among the two political parties has affected the Black Stars badly.
“I agree with Wakasu 100%. Let me be honest partisan politics has badly affected the Black Stars and even some of the Sports Federations. I experienced it as a sports minister. Some people in NPP influenced some of the players against my administration as minister and I got to know”, he told Angel FM.
“Some of my own party people too tried to influence me and advised me against entertaining some Black Stars players in my office because they believed these players belong to NPP so I should not deal with them.

“These are facts we have to throw partisan politics out of sports. We have to understand that Sports should be devoid of politics. It is a big challenge”, he added.
