A young Ghanaian fan reportedly died while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama in their World Cup opener on Wednesday night.
Sara Araba Tettey, aged 26, experienced a cardiac arrest following the match, where the Black Stars secured a narrow one-goal win. Caleb Yirenkyi found the net during the fifth minute of added time, earning Ghana all three points and dashing Panama’s hopes.
Tettey, who worked as a lawyer, was viewing the game with companions at a hostel in Bomso, a town located roughly 90 miles northwest of the capital, Accra. She unexpectedly collapsed amid the post-game festivities and was quickly taken to a nearby medical facility. Medical staff attempted to revive her for approximately 45 minutes, but she was ultimately declared dead.

Her passing has caused deep sorrow within Ghana’s legal community, where she was viewed as a rising legal talent, as noted by local sources.
She was admitted to the bar in October of the previous year and was employed at O&A Legal Consult, a law practice situated in the Ashanti region.
This incident follows closely after a Scotland fan died in Boston before having the opportunity to watch his beloved national team compete in the World Cup live.
