Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Rahim Ayew has said former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah did nothing wrong by choosing Andre Ayew as the skipper of the Black Stars.
Andre Ayew was named the captain of the Ghana’s male senior national team prior to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where Ghana performed abysmally.
The Swansea City midfielder replaced Asamoah Gyan who was elevated to the position of a ‘General captain’ after a record seven years of leading the team.

The sudden change sparked controversies in Ghana with Asamoah Gyan announcing a retirement from the national team of which he rescinded his decision after call from the presidency.
After barely a year since Andre Ayew became the skipper of the Black Stars, his senior brother Rahim Ayew has finally cleared his throat on the issues that happened when his brother was named the national team captain.
Rahim Ayew was asked during an interview with Angel TV whether he advised his brother to reject or accept the captaincy due to the controversies it generated in the country, the former Zamalek defensive midfielder said, “we talked about it as brothers but even before then, I had been advising him to captain the team when the need arises and when he feels it’s the right time to lead the national team.

“It was clear from 2018 that my brother [Andre Ayew] was going to be the captain, because he was captaining the team when Asamoah Gyan was injured. In the qualifiers [2019 AFCON], he captained the team because Gyan was injured at that time. So if the coach [Kwasi Appiah] made him the captain, there was nothing wrong with it”, Rahim Ayew added.
