It was a cracker of a match at the Accra Sports Stadium as Hearts of Oak stood on their grounds to sink tier 2 side Uncle T United 4:2 to progress to the round 16 of the NC Special Competition.
Uncle T United who prior to the game, promised to eliminate the Continental Club Masters from the on-going competition, indeed gave the home side a hell of a match but their strength and courageous showdown were not enough as Esso, Bonney, Obeng Junior and Kordzi snatched the three maximum points for the Rainbow side.
Sensational Enock Amagro had the opener for the Prampram based team after connecting a cross from George Teye in the 43rd minute.
As the referee was about to whistle for the end of the first forty-five minutes, striker Joseph Esso headed home the equalizer for the Phobians to end the first department of the fascinating encounter.
Hearts of Oak returned from the break to press the visitors harder for the lead but to no avail.
Mitchell Sarpong was unfortunately injured following the hard tackles from the defenders of the visitors but coach Kim Grant quickly replaced him with Kojo Obeng Junior.
The change turned out to be a blessing for the home side with Christopher Bonney slotting in a 63rd minute spot kick after Kojo Obeng Junior was brought down in the 18-yard box. The spot kick makes Bonney’s fourth goal in the NC Special Competition.
George Teye responded quickly with a goal in just after 2 minutes that Christopher Bonney has puting the Phobians on the lead.
The visitors started proving stubborn but once again Kim Grant brilliantly brought in Kofi Kordzi to the game to physically match the defense of the opponent boot for boot.
Kojo Obeng Junior in the 85th minute brought the Continental Club Masters to the lead again after heading home Christopher Bonney’s corner kick.
Hearts of Oak kept dominating after the third goal until Kofi Kordzi made the game a mere formality for the Phobians with an 89th minute goal to end the game.
The victory means Hearts of Oak are through to the round sixteen of the NC Special Competition.
