Ghanaian defender Jonathan Mensah has been named the new captain of Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew.
The 29-year old centre-back has been appointed the skipper for the Major League Soccer outfit after former captain Wil Trapp completed a switch to rivals Inter Miami.

Mensah has become the first ever African-born player to captain Columbus Crew and the second non-American after Argentinian Federico Higuain in 2013.
The former Ashgold Sporting Club defender has been exceptional for Columbus Crew since arriving at the team from Anzi Makhachkala in 2017.
He has capped over 77 matches for Columbus Crew in the Major League Soccer as a defender and truly deserves to be named the new skipper.

He was recently appointed the Football Ambassador for Books & Boots Foundation which is a Ghanaian NGO that partners schools and operates in deprived communities using reading and soccer to inspire youngsters to pursue their goals.
At the national team level, Jonathan Mensah became a junior World Cup winner in 2009 with the Black Satellites and a two-time World Cup attendee with the Black Stars.
