Ghana’s all-time leading topscorer Asamoah Gyan has stressed that his elder brother Baffour Gyan’ career opened the doors for him at the genesis of his football career.
Asamoah Gyan, regarded as one of the best center forwards to have emerged from the African continent, believes his elder brother, Baffour Gyan has played an integral role in his football career and will forever be grateful.
“My brother, Baffour Gyan opened the doors for me at the very beginning of my career”, Gyan told Kwaku Manu in aggressive interview.
“I began my career at a very tender age, around 10 and I was very determined to become a professional footballer in the near future.
” I was very hard-working and my brother’s name then, helped me a lot, It opened the doors for me.
“I had the opportunity to play for Liberty Professionals Academy before gaining a promotion to the senior side in 2003.
” In just a year after completing senior high school, I had the chance to play for the national team and I believed I excelled.
“I was very determined to make my brother happy by excelling in every little opportunity I get in my football career through his name. I will say my brother’s fame then helped me a lot.
“But despite my brother’s fame then which opened the doors for me, I also tried to work hard and do better to supercedes what my brother did during his playing time”, Gyan ended.
The former Sunderland attacker scored his first ever Black Stars debut goal in November 19, 2003 against Somalia in 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Since then, he has rised through the ranks to become Ghana’s all-time leading topscorer with over 51 goals, surpassing three times African best player, Abedi Ayew Pele with 33 goals.
