Ghana scooped nine medals in the just ended Africa Junior Cadet Fencing Championship held at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
The four days event which started from February 25 to Saturday, February 29, 2020 saw eleven African countries participating.

After the competition, Ghana bagged nine medals (3 Silver & 6 bronze) to finish third after Egypt and Algeria.

Though the tournament had a reduction in the number of days from five (5) to four (4) days with an expectation of the climax of events on Friday, 29th February, 2020, the participated countries exhibited great performances.

Countries like Ghana, Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, Tunisia, Nigeria, Togo, Angola and Uganda took part in the competition.

Speaking to the media, the President of the Ghana Fencing Association, Mr. Mohammed Mahadi, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sport (MOYS), National Sports Authority (NSA), Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and all participating countries for the successful organization of the tournament.

Touching on the performance of the Ghanaian team in the competition, the President of the Association was undoubtedly impressed by the excellent display by the young ones as this happens to be their first major appearance in the tournament and yet have proven beyond all imaginable doubts that with time, they can match up to the competition’s giants such as Egypt who have dominated the medal table.
