Former Asante Kotoko striker Frederick Boateng has narrated how he got the nickname ‘Obinim Sticker’.
Boateng was largely called by most Ghanaian football loving fans as ‘Obinim Sticker’ after he was captured on television at the church of popular Ghanaian pastor Angel Obinim.

Many thought the former Inter Allies goal poacher was at the church to seek for spiritual support as he was not having enough playing time at Asante Kotoko then.
Boateng who is no longer with Asante Kotoko after his contract was terminated by the team last year, has finally narrated how he had the nickname ‘Obinim Sticker’.
Speaking in an interview with Sunyani based Nimde3 FM, Frederick Boateng swatted the news that he attends Angel Obinim’s church as it was largely reported in the local media.
“As a footballer, I believe in prayers and with that I don’t joke with my church.

“I had this friend who stays close to where I was staying during my time with Asante Kotoko. He invited me to his church one day, but before then, I asked him the name of the church, and he told me it’s Angel Obinim’s church. Personally, I have not met Angel Obinim before, so I decided to go with him.
“When I went there, the man [Angel Obinim] came to where I was staying and started telling me things about my career and my secret as well. So there was one presenter in Kumasi who was watching the church service live on TV, so when he saw me there, the presenter came on air to announce that, I have been attending Angel Obinim’s church to seek for spiritual help and that’s when Kotoko fans and Ghanaians started calling me Obinim Sticker.”, Boateng narrated.
Frederick Boateng currently plays for Angola top-flight side Desportivo De Huila and has capped 7 matches, scoring 5 goals.
