Ghana’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation has rewarded the Black Queens with a $2,000 cash prize each for reaching the quarter-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Queens bounced back impressively after a shaky start—losing 2-0 to holders South Africa and drawing 1-1 with Mali—before thrashing Tanzania 4-1 in their final group game to book a spot in the last eight for the first time since 2016.
The Ministry praised the team’s resilience and offered the financial package as motivation ahead of their quarter-final clash against Algeria on Saturday, August 19.
