Asante Kotoko midfielder Kwame Adom Frimpong has called for the 2019/2020 Ghana football season to be declared ‘null and void’ in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The midfielder says there is no point playing the remaining games behind closed doors or opening up to the supporters who may be reluctant to be at the stadia for fear of contracting the virus.

The outbreak of the deadly and highly contagious novel virus has seen the campaign suspended until further notice with 20 league games left on the calendar.
The stakeholders are divided over whether or not the remaining fixtures should be completed as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) sets May 5 as the deadline for member nations to decide on the league.
“We should declare the season null and void. We are faced with a deadly virus and our focus must be on saving lives than football. It would be better to call off the season and wait until the pandemic is over before we start a new one than to play in an empty stadium”, Adom Frimpong told Kotoko Express.

“Here in Ghana, clubs find it very difficult to cope when made to play behind closed doors so holding the remaining games without the fans should not even be an option.”
“Football is nothing without the fans at the stadia. The fans will not even go the stadia if authorities even decide to allow them because they will fear to contract the virus. We must focus on saving human lives and not put people at risk because of the game.”
