The Sekondi Sports Stadium situated at Essipong is in a deplorable state after ten years without any renovation work.
The edifices built in 2008 to serve as one of the venues for the African Cup of Nations is currently in an atrocious, wretched and a dreadful state.
The Youth and Sports Minister, Honorable Isaac Asiamah in his last visits to the region promised the Westerners that, the owners of the edifice have now come to power and will make sure the grievous edifice is renovated.
‘’The NPP government built the stadium in 2008 under president Kufour’s regime but unfortunately we went to opposition and the NDC government paid a deaf ear on it but the owners of the Stadium have come to power and I assure you that we will renovate it’’
This was the words from Honorable Isaac Asiamah but It’s almost a year now and nothing has been done on the current state of the structure.
The roofing of the Stadium has been on the awful pack day in day out whereas the press box together with the VIP stands is of no exception.
To talk of the washroom, well I need to save my comment.
Honorable Isaac Asiamah arouse the hopes of the Westerners high when he promised to renovates the edifice in no time soon.
But the question I keep asking is, what has happened to that gargantuan promise from the Minister.
After the 2008 African Cup of Nations, the edifice has host only two national team matches with an MTN FA Cup final to add up.
Sekondi Hasaacas consoled the sorrowful Westerners during their days in the Ghana Premier League by using the Stadium as their venue but after their elimination from the League, nothing like a competitive and international match has been hosted at the center.
The question is why only the Western Region.?
www.kyfilla.com understands that a delegation from the Local Organizing Committee in charge of the Africa Women’s World Cup which will be hosted in Ghana, came to inspect the stadium to use it as one of the venues for the tournament but still the problem is growing bigger and bigger.
Those in the Region are asking a simple question and a humble one, whether the government have neglected the Sekondi Sports Stadium built in ten years back.
