Ghana suffered a humiliating 4:1 defeat to Japan in the semifinal game of the Kirin Cup in the Asian country on Friday, June 10, 2022.
It was a game Japan dominated from the start to the final minute with coach Otto Addo not able to change the situation tactically.
The Japanese side were shot to the lead in the 29th minute kind courtesy defender Miki Yamane.
Despite several attempts to double the lead, Ghana managed to find her way through with Jordan Ayew netting the equaliser in the 44th minute.
It was the first goal for the Crystal Palace forward in the Black Stars set-up after more than a year.
Ayew’s couldn’t save Ghana from the wrath of the Samurai as midfielder Kaoru Mitoma restored the lead for the home team before the end of the first half.
Few minutes after returning from the tunnel, Ghana coach Otto Addo decided to introduce fresh legs into the game by bringing in Felix Afena-Gyan of AS Roma and Fatawu Issahaku.
Despite the changes, Real Mallorca attacker Takefusa Kubo made it 3-1 in the 73rd minute before Daizen Maeda of Celtic sealed the victory for Japan in the 83rd minute.
The defeat means Ghana will have to battle for the third position against Chile while Japan play Tunisia in the final.
