It took Ghana the dying embers of the game to manage a slim victory over Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Thursday evening kind courtesy a strike from Antoine Semenyo.[ads2]
It was a really tough test for Ghana despite being touted the favorite prior to the start of the game.
Ghana went into the game without her most experienced player in the current squad, Andre Ayew who picked a knock before the game.
Southampton defender Salisu Mohammed who has been outstanding at the heart of defence for Ghana also sustained an injury a day before the game and was ruled out.[ads3]
Despite the absence of the two aforementioned players, coach Chris Hughton who was playing his first game as the Black Stars tactician paraded a formidable lineup to face Angola.
After both sides creating some chances, the first half ended goalless with Ghana having a little edge over Angola in terms of ball possession.[ads4]
The second half of the game saw the Black Stars pushing for the opener with the over 30,000 spectators chanting and screaming for the first goal.
Several attempts to get the opener proved futile with Kudus Mohammed, Kamal Deen Sulemana, Inaki Williams getting some decent chances.
With all hopes lost, Antoine Semenyo managed to give Ghana the only goal to secure the three points for the Black Stars.
