Nations FC made history in Ghanaian football on Saturday by defeating Dreams FC 5-4 in a penalty shootout to claim the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup at the University of Ghana Stadium, following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.
Joseph Effah gave Nations FC the lead in the 31st minute with a composed finish, but Abdul Razak Salifu equalized for Dreams FC just before halftime.
Despite both teams creating opportunities in the second half and extra time, the match remained level and was ultimately settled from the penalty spot. Nations FC kept their composure to convert all five spot-kicks and secure the trophy.
This victory is historic. Nations FC become the first club in 34 years to win the FA Cup after being relegated from the Ghana Premier League—matching Voradep’s achievement in 1992, when they defeated Neoplan Stars 3-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw.
The triumph crowns an impressive cup campaign for Nations FC and brings one of the most memorable MTN FA Cup tournaments in recent years to a close.
