President Akufo-Addo has said Ghana’s land borders will continue to remain closed until further notice.
The land borders of the country has been closed since recording its first case in 2020.
Many have called for the opening of the borders particularly traders, neighbors and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).[ads2]
But President Akufo-Addo in a nationwide broadcast on Wednesday, December 15 noted that the land borders will continue to remain closed.
According to the President, this forms part of the directives to prevent a fourth wave of the devastating disease during the festive season.[ads3]
He cautioned airline companies to desist from flying unvaccinated passengers into the country as any company who will do otherwise will pay a fine of $3,500.
On December declared as a month of vaccination, President Akufo-Addo said, “this December is declared VACCINATION MONTH and aggressive campaign for vaccination being launched.
He said, as at Tuesday, December 14 2021, the Ghana Health Service has received a total of 17,736,710 vaccine doses, out of that, 6,420,973 have been administered making over 11 million more doses available for vaccination.[ads4]
He continued that another 8,529,090 vaccine doses expected by the close of the year to add to the already 17,736,710 vaccines in the country.
He said, the total vaccines expected by the end of the year is around 26 million almost equivalent to the country’s population.[ads5]
