FC Samartex have been crowned champions of the maiden edition of the annual Nsenkyire Cup 2021 after beating Asokwa Deportivo in the finals on Sunday, October 31, 2021.
It was a captivating fixture with the two clubs showcasing pure talents and reason why they deserve to be in the finals of the competition at the Samartex Park which was almost full to the brim.
After ninety minutes of explosive performance, FC Samartex managed to pip Asokwa Deportivo by a goal to nil to emerged winners of the four-tean competition which started on Saturday, October 30, 2021.[ads2]
As a sign of wanting to distract the Asokwa Deportivo squad, FC Samartex commenced the game on a high-flying note with Richard Gyamfi, Giyas Ibrahim, Raymond Kwoffie tormenting the visitors defence.
The Timber Giants could have annihilated Asokwa Deportivo in the first forty-five minutes but goalkeeper Samuel Otoo was always available to savage the situation for the Namole Boys.[ads3]
Even though Samartex dominated possession in the entire forty-five minutes, Asokwa Deportivo tried their possible best to land the opener with the few chances they created but failed to make good use of the opportunities.
FC Samartex nearly broke the deadlock in the 7th minute but Asokwa Deportivo goalkeeper Samuel Otoo beautifully saved the ball from entering his net.
The Samreboi-based club kept pushing and pressing but a small mistake from the defenders of the home team nearly gave Asokwa Deportivo the lead in the 12th minute but goalkeeper Tijani Musah saved his outfit from conceding the early goal.
Deportivo attacker Samuel Tetteh had his strike in the 21st minute going off target.
Defender Akwasi Addai nearly broke the virginity of the game for the home side but his sumptuous header was punched out by goalkeeper Samuel Otoo in the 29th minute.
Samartex continued to dominate the last minutes of the first half but goalkeeper Samuel Otoo ensured that all efforts from the Timber Giants become fruitless.
The Timber Giants returned from the recess to dominate the early minutes of the second half, pressing and pressurizing the Asokwa Deportivo defenders for the opener but Collins Agyei Bekoe, Edward Asare and the other defenders of Asokwa Deportivo maintained their composure to prevent Samartex from breaking the virginity of the game.[ads4]
In the 52nd minute, Asokwa Deportivo defender Ernest Owusu strike went off target after a scintillating and we’ll calculated pass from midfielder Paul Agyemang.
FC Samartex talisman Richard Gyamfi nearly broke the deadlock in the 75th minute but there was too much elevation on his strike which went off target.
As if the game was about to end in a goalless, Referee Eric Kornie awarded FC Samartex a penalty after Richard Gyamfi was fouled in the eighteen yard box.
Captain Emmanuel Adu Siaw managed to convert the penalty to give his outfit victory and the giant trophy over Asokwa Deportivo.
Meanwhile, Sekondi Hasaacas were beaten 2:1 in the third place game by Wassaman United on same day…
For the prizes, Wassaman United pocketed Gh¢1,000 plus a bronze medal for placing third whilst first runner-up Asokwa Deportivo went home with Gh¢1,500 plus silver medal with winners of the competition, FC Samartex winning the giant trophy, gold medal and a cash of Gh¢3,000.00.[ads5]
