Ghanaian commuters will suffer a great financial blow when commercial transportation rates jump by an astounding 30% on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Ghanaian commuters are going to take a big financial hit because starting on Monday, January 22, 2024, commercial transport fares will increase by an astounding 30%.
Citizens who are already coping with the current economic challenges have expressed concerns and debates in response to this announcement made by the transportation authorities.
The increase, according to a press release from the Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana, is the consequence of a “substantial rise in the costs of lubricants and spare parts, coupled with increment on DVLA service charges,” and it is significantly affecting the members’ means of subsistence.
The operators also lamented the high cost of maintenance and repairs.
“The press release from the commercial transport operators stated that the proposed fare increase aims to address the financial challenges faced by the drivers and ensure the sustainability of the public transportation industry in Ghana.”
Recognizing the negative effects of these obstacles, the Transport Operators Association disclosed that they have held extensive discussions with a range of stakeholders, including pertinent state agencies and other transportation associations.
