Stephen Appiah, Vice Chairman of the Ghana national team management committee, believes if Muhammed Kudus will not be at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, someone must be there to replace him.
Kudus sustained a hamstring injury in January, and was expected to return in April, but he has since encountered another setback on his path to recovery.
Kudus was an outstanding performer for Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, netting two goals in three matches in Group H. The talented attacker notably scored the winning goal in a 3-2 victory over South Korea at the tournament. During an interview on GhanaSoccernet he said,
“We know his contribution to the team, but even during playing days, when a player is not available, we went ahead to play the game.
“So we should go ahead with that level of belief that when someone is not around, someone will be there to replace him.
“Kudus is him, and when he is available, and he plays, he gives the team a lift, but we should just pray and see what happens because I am equally impressed with the performance of some of our players playing abroad.”
With Kudus now likely to miss the entire tournament, Ghana faces a critical decision on how to fill the void left by the Tottenham star.
He become the first Ghanaian to score two goals in a single World Cup match in Qatar.
