More than 15 years after the first release of the iPad and the messaging service, Meta has now created a dedicated iPad app for WhatsApp, giving tablet users a native experience.
The software, which can be downloaded from the software Store today, May 28, 2025, has several capabilities that iPhone users are accustomed to, such as screen sharing, the ability to join audio and video chats with up to 32 people, and the usage of both front and rear cameras.
With features like Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over fully supported, the latest version of WhatsApp for iPad is tailored for iPadOS. Users may access their messages without interruption while using other apps, including web browsers or video players, thanks to this integration, which makes multitasking easy.
This would have been a fantastic feature for iPad users during lockdown—you would not have been able to move for WhatsApp quizzes—and makes advantage of the iPad’s larger display, providing a more useful experience than continuously switching between apps on smaller mobile devices.
Before, the only options available to customers who wanted to view WhatsApp on a bigger screen were to utilize desktop apps for Mac or PC or the web version in their browser.
A more simplified and effective WhatsApp experience on Apple’s tablet is promised by the dedicated iPad app. Similar to Apple’s Messages app, which shows contacts and chats on the left and the selected conversation on the right, it introduces a two-column style while maintaining the essential messaging features.
While the release notes for the latest WhatsApp build (25.16.81) don’t specifically mention the iPad app, the update enables the full-screen experience on various iPad models, including the standard iPad, iPad mini, iPad Pro, and iPad Air. Meta has also published a blog post detailing the arrival of the iPad app.
