Ashanti Gold captain Shafiu Mumuni bagged hat-trick to power his side to qualify to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup at the expense of Akonangui FC.
The Miners thumped the Equatorial Guinea 3:0 in the second-leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round on Saturday at the Lenclay Sports Stadium in Obuasi.
Shafiu Mumuni opened the scoreline for Ashanti Gold with a first minute spot kick.
The agile goal poacher netted the second goal for the Miners in the 6th minute through a defensive blunder on the part of Akonangui FC.
As if the brace was not enough, Shafiu Mumuni delivered a perfect touch from a close range to score a hat-trick in the game.
The visitors after conceding the early three goals, gained possession with Saturnino Iyanga having his efforts saved goalkeeper Frank Boateng.
Akonangui FC couldn’t dominate for long as Ashanti Gold regained possession and started creating goal threatening opportunities.
In the 19th minute, midfielder Amos Addai could have extended the lead to four, but he failed to utilize the one on one chance that he had.
Akonangui FC player Diosando Mbele was shown the yellow card for his bad tackle on Latif Anabila in the 26th minute.
Akonangui FC nearly had the consolation but Ashanti Gold goalkeeper Frank Boateng prevented the visitors from finding the net, with two crucial saves in the 30th and the 32nd minutes of the encounter.
Ashanti Gold hat-trick hero, Shafiu Mumuni could have scored his first ever double brace, but missed the glorious chance that he had in the 35th minute.
The first half ended 3:0 for the home side at the Lenclay Sports Stadium in Obuasi.
Ashanti Gold returned from the recess, with another mind-blowing performance, dominating possession and creating some decent chances.
Coach Ricardo Da Rocha introduced Amos Addai, Appiah McCarthy and Emmanuel Owusu to the game to replace Mark Agyekum, Marco Aurelio Silva and Amos Addai respectively.
Akonangui FC also made a change as Ernesto Ewolo came in for Slyvester Mba in the 83rd minute.
Appiah McCarthy nearly had the fourth goal for Ashanti Gold Sporting Club as he sent a long shot from the center circle but goalkeeper Mosibe saved the situation for Akonangui FC.
The game ended 3:0 for Ashanti Gold and have qualified for the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
