The Vice President of Rugby Africa, Andrew Owor has charged Team Ghana to win the ongoing Sevens AFCON tournament in Uganda.
Ghana is among the fourteen countries battling it out to win the tournament and represent Africa in the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa and also the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
Speaking at the Team Ghana’s jersey presentation, Andrew Owor implored the West African side to continue with the succes its chalked at the West Africa Regional Sevens Championship held in Kumasi – a tournament which Ghana won both at the male and female divisions.
“I was in Kumasi and I saw the fire and hunger with which you conquered all and that is why you are here. I believe the coaches have done all they can in terms of preparation, the rest lies with you now. This is another platform to showcase to the rest of Africa and the world what you can do”, he said.
This year’s Sevens AFCON have countries like Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Namibia, Senegal, Tunisia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Kenya all participating for the two tickets.
This year’s event will double not only as a qualifier to the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa but also the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
All three medallists will qualify for a ticket to Cape Town for the World Cup on September 9-11 at the Cape Town Stadium while only the finalists will have booked their flight to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games on July 29-31 at the Coventry Stadium.
