Ghana’s U17 national team, the Black Starlets, is set to commence full-scale residential training on Monday, January 19, 2026, as preparations intensify for the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has extended invitations to 44 players to begin preparations for this prestigious continental tournament. The roster includes members of the squad that participated in the 2025 WAFU B U17 Championship, where Ghana secured its qualification for the AFCON, alongside selected players from a comprehensive two-month nationwide screening exercise conducted by the technical team.
All players selected through the screening process have successfully passed the mandatory MRI tests, ensuring their eligibility for the next phase of preparations.
The players are required to report to the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence on Monday at 4:00 pm, where they will officially commence residential training under the guidance of the technical and medical teams.
During the training camp, Coach Dr. Ogum will finalize his squad for the 2026 U17 AFCON from the pool of 44 players, following rigorous training sessions, tactical assessments, and evaluation matches.
Concurrently, the Black Starlets’ technical team will continue to scout emerging talents across the country and monitor foreign-based Ghanaian players as part of ongoing efforts to further strengthen the squad ahead of the AFCON tournament.
