The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has commenced its license D coaching course in the Western Region.
The course which began at the Ghana Secondary Technical School in Takoradi on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 will be in batches with the second batch to start on January 14, 2022 at the same venue.
The Licence D Coaching course is to equip participants on the development of youth footballers, methods of coaching, understanding coaching, administration of first aid and safety among others.[ads2]
Some of the key areas include growth and development of young footballers, methods of coaching and cardio vascular resuscitation/administration of first aid.
Participants will also be taking through series of practical sessions with GFA Director of Coaching Education Professor Joseph Mintah as the supervisor and Hasaacas Ladies coach Yusif Basigi, former Medeama SC coach Ignatius Fosu among others as instructors.
Speaking at the event, Professor Joseph Mintah disclosed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will from next season roll out a policy that will forbid coaches with license B certificate from heading division One League clubs.[ads3]
He said the minimum certificate for a division One League coach next season will be CAF license A as the association seek to grow football at the lower levels
“….It even started last season but we [GFA] wanted to roll it out this season of which the clubs protested that they have contracts with their coaches among others, but from next season all Premier League coaches should have the license A same as the division one with the assistant coaches a minimum of license B but it will be better the assistant coaches also get a license A. As at now most of the coaches have the license A.”
The Personal Assistant to the Western Regional Minister, Mr. Charles Kobina, on behalf of the Minister Dr. Kwabena Okyere-Darko applauded the Ghana Football Association for the initiative to train aspiring coaches for the growth of football in the country. He urged the participants to take the training seriously if they want to reach the furthest of their career.
“Football is now a huge business and it is right for coaches who are major stakeholders to be trained. I will implore them to take the training very serious and endeavor to get a good partnership that will help their career. They should be able to learn different languages as they will meet different kinds of people in their career, they should be passionate as well.”[ads4]
Meanwhile, the course has already been held in seven regions left with Western, Central, Volta and Upper East Regions.
The course is being supervised by GFA Director of Coaching Education, Professor Joseph Mintah with Hasaacas Ladies coach Yusif Basigi, former Medeama SC head coach Ignatius Fosu and others as instructors.
