The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku has defended and justified why Philemon Baffour has been having regular Black Stars call-ups.
The Dreams FC defender has been under huge criticisms over his continuous invitation to the Black Stars but yet to feature in a single game for the Ghana senior male national team.[ads2]
Many have associated Baffour’s continuous call-ups to the Black Stars to being a Dreams FC player, a club which is in one-way or the other belongs to the Ghana FA President.
But according to Kurt Okraku, Philemon Baffour has been a key figure of the Dreams FC team and deserves the Black Stars invitations.[ads3]
Speaking on Kumasi-based Kessben FM, Kurt Okraku said, “this is very disrespectful to myself and my administration, and the coach as well, it is very unfair… The fact that a player has been invited from my camp doesn’t mean I influenced the selection but it might be that the player is of a higher quality.
“The young boy [Philemon Baffour] has been very regular for Dreams FC, has served Ghana at the U-20 level and currently an AFCON Champion, so he deserves the call-up. The fact that he is not getting the media publicity doesn’t mean he is not good enough”, he added.[ads4]
Kurt Okraku used the opportunity to apologize to Ghanaians over the Black Stars abysmal showdown at the AFCON 2021 where Ghana failed to progress from the group stage of the prestigious tournament.
Ghana failed to win a single game at the AFCON 2021, accumulated only a point in a group of Morocco, Gabon and Comoros.[ads5]
