The youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have decided to challenge the parliament approval for presidential spouses to receive salaries.
This comes after information popped up that the parliament of Ghana has approved for the first lady and the second lady to be paid henceforth.[ads2]
The earlier reports suggested that it was President Akufo-Addo who has decided to pay his wife Rebecca Akufo-Addo and the second lady Samira Bawumia – but the information minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has denied that, stating it was an approval from the previous parliament.
But the NDC youth wing have decided to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court – indicating that the timing of the decision was wrong particularly now that the country is recovering from the devastating coronavirus.[ads3]
The wing believe this is a calculated attempt for “President Akufo-Addo to further drain the consolidated funds with a needless expenditure and an attempt to attack the Constitution of Ghana.”
