Once again the Black Meteors of Ghana have been beaten on penalty shootouts in the U23 AFCON.

Ghana were defeated 5:6 on shootouts by the South Africans after 2:2 in regulation period in the U23 AFCON third place play off at the Cairo International Stadium today.
As usual the Black Meteors performed abysmally in the first half of the match which resulted to Singh getting the opener for the South Africans in the 15th minute to end the first forty-five minutes.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko’ side returned from the break to dominate possession with Kwabena Owusu and Samuel Obeng coming close to the equalizer.

In the 50th minute, HJK Helsinki sensation Evans Mensah snatched the parity for the West African side before Kamohelo Mahlatsi brought the South Africans to the lead again after twelve minutes.
Real Oviedo forward Samuel Obeng had the equalizer for Ghana in the 85th minute to send the game to penalty shoot-outs after the ninety minutes.

Once again Ghana failed to get a win from the shootouts as South Africa emerged as the victors with 5:6 to secure a ticket to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Meanwhile, Ghana’ dream of making it to the Tokyo 2020 is still hanging and will have to beat a country from the Asian continent in a playoff match before securing a spot.
