Asante Kotoko failed to beat city rivals King Faisal at the Lenclay Sports Stadium who are facing relegation.
The Porcupines hosted the Insha Allahu boys in week 32 of the Ghana Premier league with hopes that they will smashed their city rivals to close the gap between them and league leaders Hearts of Oak.
Kotoko head coach Mariano Barreto Jeronimo made three changes to the squad that lost 1-0 to Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash last week at the Accra Sports Stadium.[ads2]
Christopher Nakai Nettey and Habib Mohammed made way for Samuel Frimpong and Augustine Okrah in the starting lineup respectively due to injuries.
The Portuguese tactician replaced injured Patrick Asmah with Ibrahim Imoro at the left fullback position for Asante Kotoko.[ads3]
On the other hand, King Faisal gaffer Nurudeen Amadu made just one change to the team that defeated Legon Cities FC 2-0 at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman last Monday.
King Faisal opened the scoring of the match in the 15th minute after Zubairu Ibrahim connected a cross from Enoch Morrison on the right.
In the 60th minute, Morrison came very close to getting the second goal for King Faisal but an effort from the edge of the box missed the posts by an inch.[ads4]
Kwame Peprah nearly doubled the advantage for Faisal but his shot struck the woodwork after rounding goalkeeper Kwame Baah leaving an empty net ten minutes later.
Substitute Francis Andy Kumi levelled matters for the Porcupine Warriors with a header from close range in the 84th minute following a tussle in the Faisal box.
The ‘Insha Allah Boys’ came so close to getting the match winner in the dying embers of the game but a crucial save by goalkeeper Baah and the framework denied them the victory.
Kotoko will be hosting second-tier Asokwa Deportivo in the FA Cup round of 16 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Wednesday.
Faisal will wait for next weekend to take on Ebusua Dwarfs in the next round of the league.[ads5]
