High Performance coach of the Ghana national football team, John Paintsil, believes Ghana has what it takes to defeat the England national football team when the two sides meet at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking in an interview, the former Ghana international described the anticipated clash as a “local derby,” pointing out that several Ghanaian players ply their trade in England and are well accustomed to the football environment there.
Paintsil expressed confidence that this familiarity could work in Ghana’s favour when the teams face off at the global tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Despite his optimism about Ghana’s chances against England, the former defender cautioned that the Croatia national football team should not be taken lightly. According to him, the European side remains a strong and experienced team capable of causing problems for any opponent.
Paintsil also used the opportunity to commend Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, describing him as a disciplined leader who can steer the team in the right direction as preparations intensify for the tournament.
Ghana will be aiming for a strong showing at the 2026 World Cup as the four-time African champions seek to make an impact on football’s biggest stage.
