The 34-year old legendary Ghanaian goal poacher who has capped 109 matches for Ghana, scoring 51 goals has been unattached since leaving India top-flight side NorthEast United earlier this year.
But it is believed that, management of Asante Kotoko have earlier opened negotiation talks with the former Sunderland attacker but it was fruitless.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM, Asamoah Gyan stated that he will not join the Ghana Premier League record holders for free but they have to submit a lucrative deal to lure him.
“I want Kotoko fans to know that I still love football and even if I don’t play for them, they should know I still love them and will continue to support them and wish them well as I can support in other areas too”
“I won’t say how much I will take to play for Kotoko as only those can come out after all deliberations are done in closet but once they are completed, it can come out”

“Nana Yaw Amponsah is my friend but he knows that we cannot base on friendship in the work we do. They know what is right and once it is done and we reach a perfect agreement, I will come and play for Kotoko”
“Nana Yaw Amponsah is a very good man and I trust his capabilities. He can achieve a lot with Kotoko and they should give him time and he will succeed. I have a personal relationship with him and I trust his word” – Asamoah Gyan said.
