I wanted to release song when I was at Everton, I was afraid of distractions – Iwobi

Alex Iwobi reveals that he held off releasing music under the name 17 while playing for Everton as he didn’t want any ‘distractions’ from helping the team avoid relegation

SM: “What was the point that you realized, ‘Okay, cool. I’ve been making music, I’ve been going to the studios since I was 14, 16, 17, why now?’ What was that moment for you?”

AI: “To be fair, I wanted to release when I was at Everton, but because… With things, it’s all about timing, and I don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, he’s distracted.’ Because Everton were going through a rough patch. I didn’t want it to seem like I’m not focused on football. So, when I moved to Fulham, my football was going well, the team’s doing well, so yeah, this is the right time. So yeah, as long as my football is going well, more music will be landing.”

Alex Iwobi reveals that Fulham boss Marco Silva prefers him making music than playing in the Power League as he ‘won’t get hurt!’

RB: “So you mentioned now was like the correct time for you to drop music. Did you come through Arsenal when Wenger was there?”

AI: “Yes. Yes, I did.”

RB: “What do you think he would have said if you dropped music whilst you was under his management?”

AI: “That’s a good question, you know? I mean, as long as the stats are making sense, because, I mean, I’m sure he knew that I was going to the Power League.”

RB: “Okay.”

AI: “All my managers know – ‘As long as you don’t get hurt.’ So especially with the manager [Marco Silva] I have now, he says he prefers me releasing music, because at least I’m not going to get hurt. I’m sure Wenger will have that same mindset as well.”

Iwobi is looking forward to secure an European football with Fulham when they face Manchester City in the final match of the English Premier League.
