Ghana’s all-time leading topscorer, Asamoah Gyan has said he has not retired from international football despite his absence from the Black Stars.[ads2]
The 36-year old has not been invited to the Black Stars after the 2019 AFCON where Ghana was booted out of the tournament in the knockout stage.

Gyan has been unattached since leaving Legon Cities FC in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.[ads3]
Even though he has not been active for over a year, the former Sunderland attacker believes he has not called it a quit with the Ghana senior national team.
“I have not retired from international football, I still feel that I can play for Ghana but I have to return to playing actively at the club level first before thinking about the Black Stars”, Asamoah Gyan said in an interview on Kumasi-based Wontumi Radio/TV.[ads4]
Asked whether he will accept to play for Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar next month, Asamoah Gyan who is currently holding the record as the highest African topscorer at the mundial said, “I will have to access myself first whether I’m ready for that challenge before accepting to play for the Black Stars. I have not decided on for now that but if I access myself and am ready, I will return to the national team and play again.”
Meanwhile, Ghana has been paired in group H of the 2022 World Cup alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
Ghana will begin the campaign against Portugal on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay.[ads5]
