Hearts of Oak have been crowned the champions of the 2019 GA Homowo Cup after beating city rivals, Great Olympics on penalty shoot-outs at the Accra Sports Stadium today.

The Rainbow giant defeated Great Olympics by 3-1 on penalty shoot-outs after 1-1 in the regulation to lift the trophy and snatch the bragging rights as the Champions of the GA Homowo Cup.
Hearts of Oak begun the game on a very good note as Emmanuel Mintah and Kofi Kordzi came close to the opener but failed to put the Phobians on the lead.

Midfielder Emmanuel Mintah nearly opened the deadlock for the Continental Club Masters in the 10th minute, as his strike from Christopher Bonney’ free kick hit the woodwork for goal kick.
Later on, the game became a ding-dong affair as both sides had some glaring chances but failed to utilize them. The first half ended goalless.

The recess saw Hearts of Oak dominating possession and creating some decent chances but couldn’t find the net of Great Olympics.
Obed Wiredu of Great Olympics had the first yellow card in the 55th minute of the game, for a bad play.

Hearts of Oak defender Benjamin Agyare made a good run in the 57th minute, and fired one at goal but his strike was saved by the Great Olympics goalkeeper.

Coach Kim Grant introduced Aminu Alhassan to the game who came to replace Emmanuel Mintah in the 63rd minute of the match.
In the 69th minute, Mitchelle Sarpong found the net for Hearts of Oak with a low grounder, which the Great Olympics goalkeeper failed to save the ball from entering the net.
Great Olympics quickly regrouped and started putting pressure on Hearts of Oak until Iddrisu Sarlar snatched the parity in the 71st minute.

The ninety minutes ended and the two teams had to be separated via penalty shoot-outs.
In the shoot-outs, the Phobians showed enough muscles as they beat Great Olympics 3-1 to lift the giant trophy.
