Ghana began their campaign in the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone 3 Nations Cup tournament currently ongoing at the Lebanon House in Accra with a win against Benin.
The Black Spikers reiterated their ambition to win the tournament with a 3-1 victory against their counterpart from Benin.
Ghana started on a brighter spot by winning the first set 25:15 but unfortunately the Beninese quickly responded with a 22:25 victory in the second set.
The staggering performance from the Beninese in the second set didn’t prevent Ghana from showcasing their ability as they regrouped to win both the third and the fourth sets with 25:23, 25:17 respectively.
Speaking after the fascinating encounter, head coach of the Black Spikers, Rahman Abdul indicated that he was astonished with the performance from the Beninese and was not expecting a walkover for Ghana
“First of all I am pleased with the results today and I must acknowledge the Benin team for the performance they put up today. Even though I was expecting a tough game, they gave us something more than a tough game but I’m happy we brushed them off eventually,” he admitted
Meanwhile, the games continue on Saturday as Ghana’s U23 side who are also partaking in the tournament will face Benin while Burkina Faso come face-to-face against Mali and Nigeria.
