The world football governing body FIFA has finally rescheduled the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations which will be held in Cameroon.
This has become possible due to changes in the international calendar because of the novel Coronavirus which has brought everything in the world to a standstill.
At a meeting with the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), FIFA has rescheduled the 2021 AFCON to 2022.

It would be recalled that, CAF recently took the decision to postpone the AFCON to 2022 while rescheduling the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) to 2021.
This means that, the 2021 AFCON will come on in January, 2022 in Cameroon per the latest update from FIFA with the exact date to be decided by CAF and the Local Organizing Committee.
Initially, the 2021 AFCON was set to take place from January 9 to February 6 but has now been changed to an unannounced date in 2022.
A statement from FIFA on the new changes reads, “the decision is to include the new period of January 2022 for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with the exact dates to be determined at a later stage.”

So far aside the host country, no other country has qualified for the tournament which will be the 33rd edition. Only two out of the six qualifying matches has been played.
In all, 48 countries have been grouped into 12 with top two of each group getting the nod to participate in the championship.
CAF initially scheduled to play the tournament in June and July next year, but was later changed to January and February due to unfavourable weather conditions during the summer in Cameroon.
