Ghana Customs, in a coordinated intelligence-led operation, has intercepted 25 million suspected illicit drugs.
The suspected illicit drugs were concealed in two 40-foot containers at the Atlantic Terminal Services Limited terminal.
According to the sources, the seized substances are Tapentadol and Timaking tablets hidden in two 40-foot ceiling fan containers. The operation involves the Narcotics Control Commission. National Security, NIB, and FDA.
However, the Takoradi Sector Commander, Walter Blankson, ordered the containers to be placed under strict surveillance before being fully uncovered.
Investigations are ongoing as the State Warehouse holds the remaining goods, and declarant Maxwell Boateng is in custody, as samples have been sent for analysis.
The government of Ghana and the security agencies have recently tried to clamp down on the usage of the illicit drugs popularly known as “Red”.
A growing number of Ghanaian youths are using these drugs to indulge in various vices, which is a worrying trend.
