Asante Kotoko players refused to train in Sudan ahead of CAF Champions League game against Al Hilal on Wednesday, according to media reports.
The entire twenty-two (22) players boycotted training as a sign of protest to demand for their unpaid bonuses despite a crucial the crucial game on Wednesday.[ads2]
The Porcupine Warriors were supposed to held a mandatory training at the venue set for the encounter but the players refused to show up for training because they have not been paid some bonuses.
It is believed that the players have not received their bonuses due them for winning their Ghana Premier League matches against Legon Cities FC and Dreams FC.[ads3]
The players have also not been paid the bonuses for qualifying the team ahead of Mauritanian side FC Nouadhibou in the first preliminary round of the Champions League.
Several reports in the local media indicate that, the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Nana Yaw Amponsah has assured the players of receiving their monies before returning to Ghana.[ads4]
Asante Kotoko face Al Hilal in a make or break encounter in the second leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League in Sudan on Wednesday.
The Ghana Premier League heavyweight lost the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana by a goal to nil and have to return the deficit before securing a ticket to the group stages of the competition, a stage Asante Kotoko last played in 2006.[ads5]
