Al Hilal pipped Asante Kotoko in the first leg of the CAF Champions League second round at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
Asante Kotoko were very determined to wallop the Sudanese giant in Accra to make the second leg in Omdurman a mere formality but it turned otherwise.[ads2]
The Porcupine Warriors started the game on a high note, showing clearly a team determined to get a victory at the expense of Al Hilal.
The entire forty-five minutes of the first half saw both clubs failing to find the net of each other despite creating some glaring chances.[ads3]
Al Hilal retuned from the break with some eagerness despite playing away but that didn’t last when Asante Kotoko started bossing the game.
The game then became balanced leading to Al Hilal goal in the 77th minute of the cagey encounter.
Vinny Bongonga netted that important goal for Al Hilal with a cool finish after he tab in Mohammed Quatara’s pass into the penalty box.[ads4]
Asante Kotoko showed glimpses of getting the equalizer but all yielded no results as Al Hilal ended the game victorious.
This means that Asante Kotoko will have to travel all the way to Omdurman to beat Al Hilal to secure them a qualification to the group stages of the CAF Champions League.[ads5]
