The management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have asked head coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor to step aside with immediate effect.
The former Ghanaian international footballer joined the Porcupine Warriors on a three year deal in October last year and has been told to step aside after barely nine months in charge.
According to Akonnor, the management of the Porcupines told him in closed door meeting to step aside as the head coach and take over the technical director job which he refused.
“Yes its true , am no more the coach of Asante Kotoko, I have been asked to step aside but to take over as technical director, I can’t comment. In a meeting I was told this and am even in Accra now”, Akonnor told Oyerepa FM.
The former Ashgold gaffer led Asante Kotoko to the group stages of the last season’s CAF Confederation Cup where they finished third in a group consisting of Al Hilal, Nkana FC and Zesco United.
The 45-year old has been able to qualify the team to next the season’s CAF Champions League after beating Karela United in the finals of the NC Special Competition tier 1.
Meanwhile, Kyfilla.com understands, Ashgold head coach Kjetil Zachariassen is likely to take over as the next head coach of Asante Kotoko.
