Henry Asante Twum, the spokesperson of the Ghana FA has stated that Asamoah Gyan still remains the general captain of the Ghana senior male national team, Black Stars.
Gyan was elevated to a position of general captain by former Black Stars gaffer Kwasi Appiah after naming Andre Ayew as the team captain ahead of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

But after his appointment as the Black Stars coach, CK Akonnor made changes as far as the Black Stars captaincy is concerned by affirming Andre Ayew as the captain while Thomas Partey and Richard Ofori serves as the first and second deputy skippers respectively.
It was never stated in the announcement whether Asamoah Gyan still remains the general captain which generated a lots of discussions on various media platforms.

Responding to a question on Accra-based Hot FM on whether Asamoah Gyan remains the general captain or has been stripped off that position in the Black Stars, Henry Asante Twum said that, “Coach CK Akonnor decided to appoint two deputy Captains of the Black Stars and since Asamoah Gyan has not retire from the national team, he is still the general captain of the Black Stars”
He added that, ” the former coach of the team [Kwasi Appiah] appointed Gyan [Asamoah] as general captain of the team [Black Stars] though he is not part of the current squad but Gyan can claim as still he is the general captain of the Black Stars.”
