Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has disclosed why he chose Legon Cities ahead of Asante Kotoko in the 2020/21 league season.
The 36-year old joined Legon Cities prior to the commencement of the 2020/21 league season after stint with NorthEast United in India.
Before joining Legon Cities, Asamoah Gyan was close to inking deal for Asante Kotoko who were also interested in securing his signature.
Snubbing Kotoko for Legon Cities angered fans of the Porcupine Warriors who went ahead to boo him in a league game against Kotoko.
But Asamoah Gyan has finally revealed why he took the decision to join Legon Cities instead of Asante Kotoko.
Explaining the reason on Accra-based Asaase Radio, Asamoah Gyan said, “I came to Legon Cities because my house is in Accra but Asante Kotoko is my team and scoring against Hearts of Oak is in my DNA.
“To be honest when Legon Cities played against Asante Kotoko and my own Kotoko fans booed me, to be honest, that really hurt but I got over it and realized that it is all love; it did hurt though.”
At Legon Cities, Asamoah Gyan struggled, appeared in only six games for a total of 96 minutes and failed to score.
Meanwhile, Gyan who is the Black Stars all-time topscorer with 51 goals will be launching his book on April 30, 2022.
