Morocco is set to ban alcohol and laser pointers from stadiums in this year’s AFCON tournament.
As part of their efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Local Organising Committee (LOC) have released a comprehensive list of banned items for all venues, including alcohol and laser pointers.
A safe, fair, and kid-friendly atmosphere is created at every stadium to ensure the beautiful game is not disrupted when Africa’s fiercest rivals meet.
CAF’s crackdown on laser pointers stems from fan-fueled incidents at club leagues and world championships, where beams were targeted at keepers’ eyes during crucial saves, causing outrage over fouled play and real injury risks.
“We won’t tolerate anything that puts players at risk or taints the competition,” reiterated one of the LOC members.
In respect to Moroccan customs and laws, alcohol has also been ousted from the stadiums and outside grounds, joined by bans on glass, cans, weapons, flares, big bags, and any divisive political, religious, or toxic banners.
During the tournament, CAF promises that Africa’s superstars will be protected by elite security crews patrolling host cities.
