The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to organise a testimonial match in honour of legendary striker and former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, in recognition of his outstanding career and immense contribution to Ghanaian football.
According to the GFA, the special event — being planned in collaboration with Gyan will serve as a befitting tribute to one of Ghana’s greatest-ever football icons. Details regarding the date, venue, and participating teams will be revealed in due course.
Affectionately known as “Baby Jet,” Asamoah Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, with 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars. He also holds a historic continental record as Africa’s top scorer in FIFA World Cup history, netting six goals across three tournaments — Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014.
Gyan’s football journey began with Liberty Professionals in Ghana before moving to Udinese in Italy. His career flourished across several top clubs, including Modena, Rennes, Sunderland, Al Ain, Al Ahli, Shanghai SIPG, and Kayserispor, before ending his professional stint with Legon Cities FC.
Beyond his goal-scoring prowess, Gyan became renowned for his leadership, resilience, and charisma, earning admiration from fans and peers across the world. His impact extended beyond the pitch, as he served as a role model for aspiring African footballers and a proud ambassador for Ghanaian sports.
