[ads1]The maiden edition of the Sekondi-Takoradi marathon has been dully launched at the plush Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel in Takoradi on Monday, November 9, 2020.
The launching ceremony which saw highly-respected personalities in the Western Region in attendance, had every detail of the upcoming event unzipped.

The marathon is expected to cover a distance of 21 kilometers (half marathon) and would be part of the activities marking the ever popular Ankos Festival, also known as “Taadi Bronya” held in December annually for over 10years.
Speaking at the event, the Project Manager of Medivents Consult and Total Marketing & Tours Limited who are the initiators of the event, William Ezah explained the rationale behind the event, stating that the sole aim is to unleash talents in the Western Region to the outside world.

He stated that, ” there are huge potentials in the Western Region and only sports can help unleash them, the Sekondi-Takoradi marathon should be on the global market. Twenty-one (21) kilometers would be covered, it won’t be easy but I know we have the people with the heart and spirit to do the race”, he said.[ads2]
“I would urged other cooperate bodies to help in sponsoring the event. We have had calla from parents who want their kids to join the race and we have decided to organize 5km race for them at the same time. We will start at the Sekondi Sports Stadium and run through the principal streets of Sekondi-Takoradi then converged at New Takoradi (Main Spain)”
“The financial packages , we won’t detail it now but Gh¢50,000.00 would be shared among the first-fifth athletes both the men and female categories. The winner will get not less than Gh¢10,000.00”, Mr. Ezah added.

He continued that, athletes are expected to arrive on December 24, 2020 for the pre event preparations and a minimum of 2000 athletes are expected to participate in the competition.
The chairman for the occasion, Nana Kobina Nketiah V who is the Omahene of Essikado traditional area, hailed the organizers of the event for choosing the Western Region to host the event.

He stated that, the event will go a long way to unleash potential athletes in the Western Region to the outside world.
Nana Kobina Nketiah urged other cooperate bodies in the Western Region to join by sponsoring the event.
Adding his voice was the Western Regional Minister Hon. Kobby Okyere-Darko Mensah opined that the Western Region is blessed with hosting event successfully and believes the Sekondi-Takoradi marathon will be a successful one.

He implored residents in the Western Region to fully support the event by trooping to the grounds to cheer their favorite up.
Present at the Marathon was the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kobby Okyere-Darko Mensah, the Sekondi-Takoradi mayor; Hon. Abdul Mumin-Issah, representatives from the
Medivents Consult and Total Marketing & Tours Limited, Ghana Education Service, sponsor, media personnel in the Western Region and other invited dignitaries.[ads3]
Meanwhile, the marathon has been scheduled for December 26, under the mandate of the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) would see thousands troop to the Oil City and to battle for the juicy packages at stake.

The event so far has Africa World Airlines (AWA), Halfan Ghana Limited, Lakeside Estate, Cowbell, Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel, and GOIL as sponsors.
