Cameroon football legend, Roger Milla has tipped his country to easily qualify from the group stage of the 2019 AFCON which will be hosted in Egypt.
According to the 67-year old who won the AFCON twice with Cameroon in 1984 and 1988, Cameroon should be able to beat all the three teams in Group F of the tournament including Ghana with ease.
“The group stage shouldn’t be challenging for the Lions. Ghana, Benin and Guinea-Bissau are teams we’ve beaten in the past – be it during the Nations Cup or in qualifiers, Roger Milla told BBC”
“We shouldn’t be afraid of anyone. It’s up to Seedorf and Kluivert to build a good team for the various games. So far, Seedorf has done a good job with qualifying the team but now is the most crucial part and he needs to live up to expectations.”
Roger Milla who was adjudged the overall best footballer on the African continent in 1976 and 1990 and the best player in the 1986 African Cup of Nations, believes Cameroon has enough arsenals to defend the tournament and even that of 2021.
“The ideal scenario will be for Cameroon to win their sixth trophy in Egypt and clinch a seventh in 2021 when the country stages the Africa Cup of Nations. This will be tough – but it’s possible.”
Meanwhile, Cameroon will climaxed their pre-afcon preparations with a friendly against Mali before heading to Egypt for the AFCON.
Cameroon will play their first game in the AFCON against Guinea-Bissau on June 25, 2019 at the Ismailia Stadium before taking on Ghana on June 29, 2019.
