A Ugandan journalist working for the state broadcaster has been shot dead in a confrontation with security forces.
Robert Kagolo was killed at his late brother’s home that was being guarded by the Local Defence Unit (LDU), a civilian paramilitary force.[ads2]
Two LDU officers have been arrested over the incident.
The family had requested security from the LDU after the kidnapping and killing of Mr Kagolo’s brother Samuel Musiitwa.[ads3]
The journalist was returning to the house on Thursday evening after his brother’s burial when he became involved in a confrontation with the officers.
It is reported that he had knocked down the gate to the house with his vehicle suspecting he was being followed.[ads4]
“The disagreement led to a shooting of which the circumstances are being investigated,” a police spokesman is quoted by the state-run New Vision newspaper as saying.
