The Faculty of Business Studies (FoBS) of Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has taken its classroom to the market, engaging traders at the Kojokrom market in a community outreach programme aimed at boosting profitability and ensuring business sustainability.
As part of its mandate to teach, research, and serve the community, staff and students of the Faculty divided into groups to interact directly with market women, sharing insights on basic financial management, marketing strategies, and procurement principles.
Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Abigail Gura, who led the exercise, said the initiative reflects TTU’s commitment to community impact.
“We are here to educate traders on financial, marketing, and procurement principles that can enhance their businesses. Beyond theory, we want our students to practically demonstrate what they have learnt in class while motivating traders to consider TTU for their wards and even themselves,” she noted.
The outreach was organised in collaboration with TTU’s Admissions Office, which also used the opportunity to inform traders about the university’s programmes and admission processes.
Head of Admissions, Bernard Mayne, described the event as part of TTU’s corporate social responsibility.
“Some traders have wards who qualify for higher education but don’t know the requirements or process. We provide them with programme details, entry requirements, and even free application forms for interested applicants,” he explained.
The traders welcomed the initiative, describing it as informative, practical, and beneficial to their businesses.
