Tanzania President, Samia Suhulu Hassan has canceled the country’s 61st Independence Day celebration directing that money for the anniversary should be used to build dormitories for children with special needs.[ads2]
It is believed that about $445,000 was budgeted for the anniversary celebration which can afford eight new dormitories in primary Schools in the country.
Already the money has been disbursed with the independence day to be celebrated with public dialogues on development instead of the usual pomp and state banquets.[ads3]
This becomes the third time a Tanzanian President has canceled the country’s independence day celebration after John Magufui in 2015 where he diverted funds towards the building of a road in the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam.
He repeated same action in 2020 but the money was used in building medical facilities.[ads4]
