The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to two prominent figures in Ghanaian sports, Mr. Richard Akpokavie and Mr. Kurt Edwin-Simeon Okraku, for their recent remarkable achievements.
Mr. Akpokavie, a seasoned sports administrator and lawyer, has been elected as the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), a significant leadership position in Ghanaian sports. His victory follows a successful tenure as Secretary-General, during which he served two terms. SWAG commended his election bid as a major milestone and expressed confidence in his ability to bring renewed energy, innovation, and progress to the GOC especially in support of athletes, women in sports, and the overall sports ecosystem in Ghana.
In a similar vein, SWAG celebrated Mr. Kurt Okraku’s appointment as the Second Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Okraku, who is also the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), was praised for his dedication, unwavering commitment, and numerous contributions to football on the continent. His new CAF role is viewed as a significant source of pride for Ghana and a nod to the country’s growing influence in African football governance.
In a statement signed by SWAG President, Kwabena Yeboah, the association wished both leaders success in their new roles and pledged to collaborate with them to advance sports development, excellence, and unity across Ghana and Africa.
