His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has submitted the names of 10 individuals to Parliament for approval as Regional Ministers. The nominees, announced on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, will serve as the first batch of ministers to oversee regional governance and development. The President made the submission through the Speaker of Parliament, highlighting the administration’s commitment to promoting effective regional leadership.
The following individuals have been nominated:
1. Northern Region– Ali Adolf John
2. Oti Region– John Kwadwo Gyapong
3. Volta Region– James Gunu
4. Eastern Region – Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey
5. North-East Region– Ibrahim Tia
6. Ashanti Region– Dr. Frank Amoakohene
7. Upper East Region– Akamugri Donatus Atanga
8. Ahafo Region– Charity Gardiner
9. Savannah Region– Salisu Be-Awuribe
10. Greater Accra Region – Linda Ocloo, MP
In a statement from the Office of the Presidency, the nominees were described as individuals with exceptional leadership skills and the experience needed to drive growth in their respective regions.
One of the prominent nominees, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, was profiled in the announcement. He is a medical professional and youth leader with expertise in healthcare, governance, and public service. Dr. Amoakohene holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Ghana, a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science degree from the University of Development Studies, and an MBA from the Accra Business School. He is currently serving as the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The President emphasized the importance of regional ministers in implementing government policies and addressing the needs of local communities. Parliament is expected to conduct a thorough vetting process before the nominees assume their roles.
