Former Asante Kotoko striker, William Opoku Mensah is hoping to land a call-up to the Back Stars following his explosive performance in Rwanda.
The 26-year old has been in a stupendous form for Mukura Victory in the Rwanda Premier League since joining in 2021.
Opoku Mensah is currently one of the best performing Ghanaian players in Africa and a hotcake in East Africa following his outstanding form for Mukura Victory.
The former Eleven Wise goal poacher has bagged 21 goals with three assists in 25 matches for Mukura Victory this season, winning five most valuable players awards.
Speaking with ace sportscaster Stephen Kwame Yeboah on Takoradi-based Connect FM’s ‘Sports Nite’ show, William Opoku Mensah believes his incredible performance for Mukura Victory in the Rwandan top-flight league warrant him a call-up to the Black Stars.
“Based on my performance in Rwanda, I know I will get the opportunity to play for the national team [Black Stars]”, the former Liberty Professionals attacker said in an interview on Tuesday, June 7, 2021.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are in Japan for a four-nation tournament after 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar and Central African Republic.
Dubbed the Kirin Tournament, Ghana will be facing Japan in the semifinal before coming up against either Chile or Tunisia.
Coach Otto Addo and his technical team traveled to Japan for the tournament without Arsenal ace Thomas Partey who is nursing an injury.
Hearts of Oak duo of Dennis Korsah and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh are currently the local-based players in the Black Stars squad for the Japan tournament slated for June 10-14, 2022.
